SCTC Meeting Notes 03/24/2022
- Welcome
- Attendees 36
- President Terry Tysseland welcomed all attendees to the So Cal Tuna Club’s 97th year..
- Announcements:
- Mike Mundy announced that he got a call from Myra Dulin who said she was working on Ron Dulin’s estate and came across a note where Ron had asked her to buy everyone lunch after he had passed. Ron was a long-time member and president in 1997. She gave Mike a check to buy everyone lunch so today we all enjoyed a lovely lunch on Ron Dulin.
- Today we honored Mike Brown’s passing with a ‘moment of silence’ and a “ringing of the bell”. He passed away 3/11/22 and was a member since 2015. Today he was honored with touching eulogy by his brother Hank Brown, our president pro-tem. Mike was a part of big family from Hawaii, where all were involved in water sports and fishing. Hank related many funny stories, one where when Mike was suffering from had Parkinson’s and still loved to go out on the water. Hank would bait his hook and when Mike would pull in a fish Hank would take it off the hook and rebait it. One time the fish were biting so good that Hank was full time baiting Mike’s hook and didn’t get a line in the water while tending to Mike’s gear. Mike looked at Hank with that look of his and said ?why aren’t you catching any fish?, I am catching all the fish. I will remember Mike on the many Alaska trips which he loved enjoying the Last Frontier.
- Ladies Cocktail Party and Dinner Dance will be held this Saturday evening with a great showing of 36 couples attending. We are looking for 4 more couples to get to our goal of 80 members and guests. So at this writing there is still some room. It will be held at Lions Automobilia Museum in Rancho Domingues featuring over 150 cars from the 50’s and great artwork reenacting a village from that era and a large painted wall depicting the Lion’s Street Drag Strip. We will enjoy an open bar, shrimp cocktail, fillet of beef, great wine and a wonderful desert ………and best of all the fellowship for nearly 80 members and guests. It’s time to put Covid behind us and get back to our normal lives.

- Good Cheer Report – Co DeCoudres – Terry reports that he got a text this morning from Tom Dixon that his younger son who is a special needs person who was born with a neurological disorder and lives in a group home, stopped breathing and had to be rushed to ICU where he is now stabilized. Today Tom got the good news that although his pancreas is severely infected there is no sign of it being cancerous and hopefully his gallbladder and pneumonia can be corrected by ANTIBIOTICS. Please Keep Tom and his family in uour prayers.

- Couples Trip – The 2022 Couples Trip has again been reschulded now to 11/12/2022 to 11/17/2022 and the new location is to Tamarindo Costa Rica. For many reasons we could not get Florida to work this year. Lucky for us that Cor Claus who was Chairman of the Couples Trip last year and had put this same trip together, although we had to cancel due to Covid. He has graciously agreed to be chairman for us again this year. Lucky for us that it is a Marriott property and it is experiencing no difficulties this year and is completely booked. Lucky for us Cor still had all of his contacts and was able to secure the above dates. And lucky for us Dennis Friedman has agreed to co-chair the event and be Boat Boss. Cor asks all that are interested to send him an email or phone call to show your interest. Thank you, Cor and Dennis, for taking on this responsibility!!! We haven’t had a Couples Trip in three years and we all agree that we must break out of COVID make one work this year!!!!

Paul put on a seminar on last Thursday March 10th after our regular meeting for any going on the trip. His wife is a doctor here in the LB area and speaks with her relatives in the Ukraine daily. Ken related the difficulties they are experiencing in a country that was Russian over 30 years ago and now a free democracy. I have asked Ken to invite his wife to come to a lunch and speak to us in-person or via ZOOM to relate her thoughts on the currents events as she sees them from her perspective. She has agreed to talk to us via ZOOM and we are trying to make the Thursday April 7th lunch work so more to follow.
