This year 12 SCTC members traveled to El Salto Lake in Mexico. The journey began meeting at the Club at 7:00am where they boarded a charter bus and headed to Los Angeles International Airport for their flight to Mexico.
Upon arrival in Mazatlan, the group was met by the friendly staff of El Salto and shuttled by van to the resort while enjoying a cold beer or soft drink. They were greeted by their old friends and the friendly El Salto staff. The resort provides very comfortable lodging and excellent gourmet meals, and of course, professional, and friendly service.
Unlike in prior years, the fishing was very slow…the locals stated that about every 20 years the fishing just shuts off, and they were correct. After 3 ½ days of fishing the results was the lowest catches of all previous El Salto trips.
But as tradition calls for, the group paired into 6 teams to compete in the customary team tournament. And as you might expect, Team Goyo-Pablo captured first place again, squeaking out the victory by a couple of pounds. The first-place finish earned the team the Paul Liberti award. Greg Bohnet’s contribution to the team was a 7.9lb largemouth bass which earned him the first-place prize and the Herbert Adams award for the largest bass category.
In all, the group had a great time. Its not always about catching fish, but relaxing and socializing with their Club members is really what makes for a great trip. They look forward to returning to El Salto in 2023.
