Isla de Cedros Trip

Posted on January 31, 2023 by Southern CaliforniaJanuary 31, 2023

September 16-21, 2022

Event Chairman:  Mike Engle

This year 9 SCTC member and 3 guest attended the annual Isla de Cedros fishing trip. Led by Mike Engle, other members included: Jan Packard, Fox Boswell, Joe Vicic, Dick Ableser, John Whitaker, Phil Capriccio, Phil Mazzocco, Jeff Feddersen, and guests Greg Ableser, Dean Archer, and Scott Wilson.

This year uncertainly loomed over the trip as the Isla de Cedros had just been ravaged by a Hurricane Kay. However, with positive thoughts, the group met at the Club and boarded their charted bus for their 2-hr. trip to Cross Boarder Express, (CBX), and the Tijuana Airport. They flew directly to Cedros Island where we were met by Richard of Cedros Sportfishing and made their way to the fishing lodge. Due to the hurricane, there were some supply shortages. In addition, internet was very intermittent and no TV. But despite all the adversities the Lodge managed to provide the group with great meals and service.

The fishing conditions were less than desirable with the seas being rough and bumpy. But that did not stop the great fishing Cedros is known for. The Group caught a good variety of fish including Yellowtail,

Dorado, Calico, Sand & Pinto Bass, White Seabass, Black seabass, (released), Barracuda and Sculpin. In all the group brought home over 325 lbs of processed fish…a very successful trip.
