September 30-October 1
Event Chairs: Dennis Friedman & Joe Vicic
The “Fall Stag Trip” came early this year, and the outcome was very successful. For the first time in more than a few years fish in all categories were caught…Billfish, Tuna, Dorado, Yellowtail and Bass.
This year 10 boats were entered with 38 SCTC members and guests competing in the 2-day event with lines in at 12:01 am Friday and lines out at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Hats off to John & Mike Bergkvist who braved the seas in their 23” Parker and caught 2 dorado. Unfortunately, Jeff Clary and his crew were forced home due to mechanical problems. Cor Claus provided his “Flying Dutchman” as the official weigh station, where anglers could enjoy free flowing cocktails when submitting their weight slips.
The awards ceremony was at Cherry Cove where the group first enjoyed appetizers and more refreshments. Cor Claus, taking advantage of the good, spirited gathering, convinced everyone to purchase lots of raffle tickets for the good of the Club. During dinner the raffle winners were presented prizes which included Mahe restaurant gift cards, fishing tackle, SKB tackle boxes, certified scales, and more.
Awards
Billfish: 130lb Striped Marlin caught/released by Andrew Weiske aboard “Sub Chaser”
Tuna: 74lb Bluefin caught by Gus Chabre aboard “Rendez Tous”
Dorado: 14.2lb caught by Chuck Anderson aboard “Jim Dandy”
Yellowtail: 24.7 caught by Chris Halliday aboard “Ozzy”
Calico Bass: 4.0lb caught by Chris Scott aboard “Hermelia”
Winning anglers received Shimano Tranx reels and SKB tackle boxes.
Of special note, Mike Contino caught an estimated 200lb Bluefin aboard the “Rendez Tous”, but unfortunately, he caught it a day earlier…so no award for his prize catch, but lots of sushi.
A Big Thank You to those who helped organize and assist in the Stag event including Dennis Friedman, Joe Vicic, Fred Westberg, Cor Claus, and Dave Sanderson.
